Aangaani


In Bharatanatyam, the body is divided into different limbs or Aangaani. They are mentioned below:

Aangaani (Limbs): The limbs involved in dance meant here are, the head, chest, the sides (hips), waist, the feet-six in number and the neck.

Prathyangaani (Additional Limbs): The additional limbs are shoulders, arms, back, belly, thighs and the shanks.
Others include wrists, elbows and the knees.

Upaangaani (Auxiliary Limbs): The auxiliary limbs are eyes, eyebrows, eyeballs, cheeks, nose, jaw, lower lip, teeth, tongue, chin and face.
Others include heels, ankles, toes and fingers.
